DAY 1 (LD) HEADING TO BARMERA: Friday 29 November 2024
From the South East this morning we make our way to Bordertown and into the Riverland via Pinnaroo where we stop for a local pub lunch. From here we continue to Barmera - a popular holiday resort town situated on the shores of Lake Bonney. The lake has been the training ground for world champion water skiers and the venue for world water speed records (Sir Donald Campbell in the 1960s). Nearby is the Bella Lavender Farm. We have arranged afternoon tea with time for a walk in the garden and to check out their range of products for sale such as homemade soap, shampoo lip balm and arthritis cream. Mid afternoon we check into our accommodation at Barmera. Dinner tonight is at the Barmera Football Club. (Meal inclusions: Pub lunch/Club Dinner)
Quality Inn & Suites Barmera – 2 nights
DAY 2 (BL) EXPLORING THE RIVERLAND: Saturday 30 November 2024
Barmera is a popular holiday resort town situated on the shores of Lake Bonney. This morning we will see the monument dedicated to Sir Donald Campbell who attempted to break the Australian water speed record on Lake Bonney in the 1960’s. We also call at the Country Music Hall of Fame before the short drive to Berri - another of the four major Riverland towns. Here we have arranged to join the “Fay” - a fantastic, fully restored river boat, for a three hour river cruise on this wide section of the Murray River. The bar will be open and a platter lunch will be served! This is the Murray River at its best! We then head across to Loxton. Today is “Light up Day” – the main day of the annual Loxton Lights Festival. Loxton shines brighter then ever on Light Up Day the town’s biggest party of the year! Most of the day’s activity will be in Loxton’s vibrant Main Street. Shops will be open ALL DAY for Christmas shopping from 9am to 8.30pm. There will be lots of fun for the whole family with regular visits from Santa. As the sun sets and the anticipation builds, don’t miss the highlight of this iconic event – the FIREWORKS SPECTACULAR at 9pm on the banks of the Murray River, where the sky will come alive with dazzling colors, marking the official start of Loxton’s magical Christmas Lights Festival. The coach will then transfer us back to our motel in Barmera for a second night’s stay. (Meal inclusions: Breakfast in the motel/lunch included, dinner at own expense)
DAY 3 (B) HEADING HOME: Sunday 01 December 2024
After a late night last night we have planned a leisurely departure. We head off at about 9.30 and make our way to Banrock Station for a delightful breakfast, overlooking the wetlands. The wetlands here are a vital part of the environment, acting as living water filters, nurseries of the valley. Combined, the lagoons cover over 250 hectares and the total site over 1,000 hectares, including mallee woodland. Weather permitting the breakfast will be served on the verandah. We then head home with a short break for lunch along the way. (Breakfast at Banrock Station, lunch at own expense)
